Enfield Carers Centre Wins New Contract to Provide Vital Service for Carers

Enfield Carers Centre (ECC) is an established local charity which has just been awarded a new 3-5 year contract by Enfield Council to provide a range of services to Enfield’s estimated 30,000 family/unpaid carers. Chief Executive, Pamela Burke said, “Unpaid carers play a crucial and often under-recognised role in supporting and supplementing the work of the statutory health and social services. Carers UK State of Caring 2017 Report quantified the value of family carers’ support at £132bn, that’s nearly the cost of providing the NHS!”
The charity’s core aim is to identify carers and support them both practically and emotionally to manage their own wellbeing and that of the people they care for. They provide services for carers who live in Enfield, or care for someone who lives in Enfield, at a variety of locations across the borough including, libraries, community centres and residential homes.

As well as directly working with carers at the centre, ECC works in partnership with local businesses, GP practices, hospitals and schools and other support agencies to highlight the challenges faced by carers; to help in the identification of common issues and assist with the implementation of good practice to help support them. They can also help businesses in Enfield support employees who are carers.

An important part of EEC’s work is to let carers know, via support work and information sessions, their options and rights when navigating health and social care and to achieve a healthy balance between their caring roles and own needs. They also provide a voice for carers via representation, by team members and the recruitment of carers as Carer Ambassadors, by participating on Council Partnership Boards and Carer Forums.

The Centre accepts referrals from all sources, including self-referral, as long as the Carer has consented they will be contacted and registered by one of the support team. For more information contact ECC on 0208 366 3677 or visit www.enfieldcarers.org
